So I guess that's it, then.....

...almost. Today was the last day of finals at my school. Tomorrow is a random day for any kid who may have missed a day of finals. I was super pumped about tomorrow, because I don't HAVE to be at school (i.e. I don't have to wake up early, commute, etc)...but turns out I gotta go in. Not because my boss says so, but because I just could not grade for one more second today in that teacher's lounge. This is how it goes: kids take exams by SUBJECT, not class period. Genius, if you ask me. That way, everyone is taking the various math tests at the exact same time - no cheating. So on the day you give your exam, other teachers proctor your exam...and you just wander to the assigned classrooms to answer any questions from the kiddos. Since my department decided to give a 4 part exam during the last week of classes instead of during finals week.....I just proctored this week. Today I was assigned to proctor at 8:45am, but I woke up at 7:15am...so I was nervous that wasn't going to happen! I guess when you press the "off" button instead of the "snooze" button, you risk sleeping in. Oops. I texted my teaching buddy Brittany Lane...and she was so kind, she replied, "Yep, I'll start the exam for you until you get there." What a gem! Thankfully, I can get ready in a jiffy, so I actually made it to school with MUCH time to spare. Wa-hoo! After I proctored that exam, I sat in the teachers lounge for 2.5 hours grading my exams (yeah, each kid took 4 "tests", multiplied by 115 students...you get the picture) I took a short break for a senior/faculty luncheon, then it was on to grading again. All of a sudden it was 3:30pm, and my neck and shoulders were so stiff from looking down at papers, I wasn't sure if I'd need to get a brace! (sometimes I exaggerate to make things more dramatic...have you ever noticed that?) All I could think about at 3:30 today in the teacher's lounge was: I need to go to the gym. Now. I have GOT to get outta this lounge (which is really nice, actually...)and I have got to do something else besides this business of grading. I said goodbye to my dream of not going to school tomorrow, and opted for sanity instead. Grades are due Monday morning. We have a faculty meeting Monday morning. We have department meetings after the faculty meeting. We have graduation on Saturday. Which means..... I need to go in to school tomorrow to finish my grades. But I am not complaining, because you know what? I got to the gym around 4-ish, and I worked out like a....like a...like a tired teacher. :) A little elliptical, a few weight machines, a few sit-ups on an exercise ball, a little bike workout, a quick 5 minute walk on the treadmil, and a nice stretch afterward. Ah...feeling more human again. People - all I have left to grade (now it is 10:26pm...I have once again been grading for hours....at HOME...in my sweats...without any make-up on, and with episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" on in the background) is ONE part of ONE class. Wa-hoo! My neck and shoulders are starting to seize up again, though...so after this post I am calling it quits. All in all - you could say that I am done with my (partial) year of teaching at WCHS....well, almost. :)

You are so funny!!! Great choices - grade, workout, human again, grade, one of one and FREE!
