I realize it has been months since I last updated. This season of my life has been challenging, to say the least. But today I was inspired by others who write on super fun blogs, so here I go again. :)
Since I last posted....I have done a lot of job searching! At first I thought that maybe it was time for a career change, and I was kind of looking at youth leader positions...but then I remembered that teachers get summers off, and, well, that pretty much settled it. :) Just kidding! Teaching has been quite the road for me....and I think I want to stay in it for a bit longer - see what teaching at a different school looks like for me. I have had a few interviews, a job offer, and lots of email communication with different schools. So if you are reading this blog - maybe you can stop for a second and say a prayer for me - that I would press on in the job search until I am certain I have landed exactly where God wants me for this next phase of life. Thanks. :)
In other news...I have made it my goal to love life - every day - to see my days as gifts from God, and enjoy everything from the 5 minute drive to work, to getting my coffee ready in the morning, and talking to students while I sit on lunch duty. A few weeks ago I got to spend some time with John Perkins - who was heavily involved in the Civil Rights Movement in Jackson, MS. I met him a few years ago when I went on the trip with some of my students - and he is one of the most influential 80-year olds I have ever met! He spoke about leadership to our students, and then I got to have dinner with he and some other teachers where he told stories of begin married to Vera Mae and how he will do anything she tells him to do. It was inspirational and a good reminder that God is at work, and invites us to join Him in bringing justice to those around us, both globally and locally.
The handsome guy in these pictures is Kevin. He is my roommate's cousin, and one weekend he came here to hang out with her, and other cousins. I came home from a night of babysitting Wes and Ella (small group family), and there was this MAN - this 6 foot 5 inches MAN - sitting in a chair at the kitchen table when I walked in the door. The next day he left, and I decided we should be facebook friends. After a few conversations over facebook and the phone....he came to visit, then I went to visit him....and...well...I guess you can tell by the pictures that we like each other a bit. :) This was not at all what I had expected to happen in the chaos of my life at this point in time, but I think God has such a different timeframe than I do...so who am I to argue? :)
Even more news...I joined a gym! Thanks to my good friend Karen, I finally caved into the world of paying money to exercise indoors while living in SoCal. And you know what? I am loving it! I like having all the options that a gym offers, and I find that I work harder when I am surrounded by other super motivated people. So that has been a blessing. Also, I have enjoyed catching up with my siblings via email, gmail chat, and skype. Kevin even got in on the skype action yesterday with me while I talked to Heidi, Nate, Sasha, and Alexis. He agrees that Sasha and Alexis are two of the most adorable and energetic kiddos out there.
Alright - I suppose this is a long enough post for one evening. I guess I have a lot to say since it's been so long! There's a lot more I could share, but I'll keep you in suspense until next time. For now...enjoy these adorable pictures of Kevin and I. (Isn't he so tall and handsome? I love the cowboy hat!)
