Funny thing: three of the four of my college roommates and I moved to southern Cali (Katie, Megan, Allison...er..me)
Even more funny: the three of us work for the same school (Kate, Meg, Al) Ha! But one of us decided to be different (Lisa) and went back to her home state of Illinois to attend law school and get even smarter than she was at Calvin! And to celebrate passing the bar exam and getting a job as an attorney, Lisa came to visit Katie, Megan, and I out in California!
We ate dinner at the classy Mt. Baldy Lodge on Fri night (can't go wrong with chicken fingers, fries, and a cherry coke!), then Saturday we drove to Temecula where there are a lot of really beautiful wineries. I am not much of a wine drinker myself, but the concept of "wine tasting" makes me feel sophisticated...so I went along with it. We paid $20, got this card with little wine glasses printed on it, and we were free to stand at the bar and taste! I liked the dessert wines the best along with the sparking champagnes...go figure...and we met some interesting people along the way. A guy we nicknamed "Target" was totally hitting on Megan and trying to talk himself up the whole time, all the while making fun of himself for wearing a red shirt and khaki pants so it looked like he worked at Target.
We also met a lovely woman who is retired from the teaching profession, and decided to serve wine as a fun job during retirement! She told us the story of matching up her son with a girl she had served wine to a few years back...they recently got married! Crazy! It was fun to talk to someone who understood us as crazy teachers.
Saturday night was a blast - we had a Harvest Party at Katie's house, which included making homemade apple crisp and playing Apples to Apples where the quote for the evening became "You know what you want," every time it was someone's turn to pick a card with a noun on it. We invited da boys to come hang with us too - Katie's bf Rob, and brother Matt (recent Calvin grad!), and Aaron. It was fun to have Lisa meet the guys in our lives...good times were had by all.
Sunday we had lunch at Mimi's restaurant and then brought Lis to the airport in Santa Ana. Since Santa Ana is so far away (a solid 40 min or so...) Megan, Lisa, Aaron, and I stopped at Target to buy candy for the long trek. Swedish fish, anyone? :)
It was a great weekend filled with lots of laughs, reminiscing, and giving testimonies of how God has been growing each one of us into the awesome people we are today. :) But for real, it is really awesome to come together again and truly look back and see God's faithfulness to each one of us individually and see how He is maturing us to be the people he wants us to be in His Kingdom. God is good.
