Middle school does not always evoke the greatest memories for most people, am I right? I went to a junior high as opposed to a middle school, and I enjoyed it for the most part. That is probably because I had a core group of really great girl friends...Megan, Jenny, Sara, Katie, Lindsay, Lindsey, Lindsay, and such. Also - my mom was a teacher at my junior high...so I'm not going to lie - I felt pretty special knowing that my mom was close by in case I needed her!
I am chilling with my friends Karen, Megan M, and Melissa right now, and like the good teacher that she is, Megan is grading her middle school students' English journals. Melissa and I were intrigued by the brightly colored notebooks that came pouring out of Megan's little cart, so I grabbed a few and read aloud. Man - it is FUNNY to read what middle school kids have to say! Ha!
Anyway, Melissa and I both decided that WE would like to purchase a brightly colored notebook of our choice, and be given writing prompts from Megan each week so WE could write in journals too! And then I remembered that....well...I have a BLOG...so I kind of DO write in a journal...for the world to see! :)
I am intrigued by the questions the Megan asks her students to write about though..such as "If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?" or "What is your favorite part about middle school so far?" Fun questions, right??? If I were an animal...I would be a...well, now that is a HARD question! Maybe I'd be a dog, because then I'd hopefully live with a loving family that would treat me really well...or maybe I'd be a fish, because I do enjoy swimming quite a bit...or I suppose a bird would be good too - that way I wouldn't have to spend so much on plane tickets...:) I am funny. :) And my favorite part of middle school was....um...being on sports teams - running XC and track, and dominating at Nordic Skiing (yes, it is an actual sport in MN, people!)
Well, that about wraps it up. I am going to continue to chill with my pals Megan, Karen, and Melissa (who is a new friend, by the way. She moved here from Canada...and goes to grad school here. She is SUPER cool, and smart, and fun to chill with.)
One last thought - Megan also brought home book order forms for her middle school kiddos. Who didn't love looking through those during class, and then begging your mom or dad to let you get that new chapter book??!! Which leads me to....what was YOUR favorite chapter book in middle school? Happy journaling! :)

The first books that come to mind are Boxcar Children and Where the Red Fern Grows. Those were elementary, but you can't beat your teacher reading out loud to you after lunch! :)
So true, Heidi. Thanks for your comment!
