It seems appropriate that this Thursday is dedicated to giving thanks. This Thanksgiving I am finding myself especially grateful - not just for the new job...but for the ways that God orchestrated (and still orchestrates) every single detail, and does not disappoint! My pastor said to me today, "Allison, you could not have put together such an awesome gift that God has given you with this job." He is so right.
I get to stay in SoCal, with my roommate who is awesome. I get to stay at my church, and be a part of my small group, and still serve as a leader at youth group. I don't know if you go to church, or if you are involved in your church at all. I have heard stories of people being hurt by their church experience, and that is so sad to me - because I have just been incredibly blessed by the places I have chosen to attend for church. This is going to make me sound like a dork, but I seriously look forward to Sunday morning services. Maybe that's because we have an awesome worship band...or maybe that's because I have really great pals at church...but I think it is mostly because of the preaching. Honestly. I wish everyone could hear what I get to hear each week - for real. Today was cool because two of my pastors (there are three....and we don't even have a very big church!) team-preached, and it was SO GOOD. We finished a series on the book of Ruth, in which we learned about faithfulness, and how being faithful will cost you something. The book of Ruth is a reminder of our Redeemer - it tells a story of this guy Boaz (cool name, right?) who honors this law set in place, even though he won't get anything out of the deal - he follows through on what he knows was right. He, in a sense, "redeems" the situation, the people, etc. All of this, of course, is to show a picture of our ultimate Redeemer - Jesus. Ah. I can't explain it very well on here, but go read the book of Ruth (it's only 4 chapters!) and maybe you'll see what I am saying. :)
So...my new job....on Monday I observed classes, and the person I took over for had her last day of teaching. Tuesday was my first day, and it was so good to be teaching again. I love having a routine again, and teaching kids all the wonders of the Spanish language and culture. :)
Now it's Sunday evening...it's raining and cold outside...friends and family living in MN are all saying it is freezing where they are, and there is 4-6 inches of snow onthe ground! I guess that's what happens this time of year, doesn't it? Ah...it is good to still be in Cali. :)
One of my favorite parts of this week was on Thursday night at about midnight. Background: I came home from teaching that day exhausted so I (naturally) took a 6 hour nap. Yep. 6 hours. 6. Which meant that I was awake from 10pm until about 1:30am. So...around midnight, after watching an episode of Glee from a few weeks ago, I went online and bought three one-way tickets for Christmas! I will be flying to Michigan and staying with H&N for a few days, then flying to Boston to stay with Z&M a few days...then back to Cali. This means I get to meet my new nephew Alberto, and my other new nephew on the way....! WOO HOO! Yay for new jobs, redemption, family, and rainy days.
