Sioux Center Iowa and Dordt College. Who wouldn't want to spend two weeks of there summer here? I know I do!
I got here yesterday afternoon around 4pm, and immediately checked out my living quarters. Surprisingly, there is no microwave, nor any dishes/cooking stuff/silverware.....and I was kicking myself for not taking some from my parents' house before I left. Thankfully Megan Moore has relatives that live 5 blocks from here and they hooked me up with everything I needed (including a coffee pot and filters!) However...I didn't get these necessary items without a small mix-up first (in good Allison fashion....) Megan told me the house was "Across the street from the church," so I parked my car and walked up to the house. I knocked, and a younger guy answered the door. I asked him if he knew Megan Moore, and he looked confused. Then I told him I was a grad student at Dordt, I was looking for a friend's aunt and uncle...and the guy said, "Well, the Bleekers live over there," and pointed across the street (still across from the church, just the other direction) I thanked him, apologized for inturrupting, and walked over to the correct house. Oops. :)
Next I hit up Hi-Vee and Walmart (so sorry, Heidi!) for the few things my mom didn't send with me, and went to bed pretty early, even before my roommate got in! I met her this morning...her name is Kim. She is from Chicago and teaches in Hungary. Yes, the country of Hungary. She's super nice, and loves coffee as much as I do, so we get along pretty well. :)
I had my first class today from 8am-3:30, "Structuring School Curriculum." Don't all jump out of your seats in excitement over the subject of this class, now! In all seriousness, today's class went by surprisingly fast. My professor is super cool. He's laid back and passionate about Christian education, so that makes it more interesting. I have met some fun peeps, and even run into some old friends (Dave Dekker and Bethany Annema)
After a few quality phone convos with my parents, Lindsay, and Aaron...I hit up the gym. It was pretty impressive! They have an indoor track, volleyball and basketball courts, a dance studio, and separate workout rooms for lifting and cardio. As you probably guessed, I hit up the cardio room, turned on my ipod, and busted out a workout on the eliptical. I love that thing. I just might have to purchase one for myself when I get back to Cali. :)
Well....now that I have procrastinated enough..I suppose I should get to my homework for tomorrow. Christian school mission statement, anyone? :)
PS: I do have some really great pics to post....but I can't do it from this computer...so stay tuned!
